Sunny Demihuman Shelter markets itself as ethical and compassionate—a place where Demis receive quality care, enrichment, and comfortable living conditions while awaiting adoption. It receives substantial donations due to its reputation.

The Reality: Behind the clean, colorful facade and professional care routines, the shelter operates as owner Andrea's private collection. Staff range from complicit (Andrea, Ivan) to uncomfortable survivors (Sebastian, Lucas). The Demis themselves navigate a hierarchy of survival, submission, resistance, and fractured hope within a system that will never see them as people.

Setting: Contemporary modern world where Demihumans (Demis) exist alongside humans. Demis are sapient humanoid beings with animal features (cat ears/tails, snake bodies, dog traits, etc.) who originally lived in remote tribal colonies. As human development destroys their habitats, Demis are increasingly displaced, captured, or "rescued."

Legal Status: Demis are legally classified as animals/pets, not people. Humans can own them, and while abuse laws exist, they're equivalent to animal cruelty laws; rarely enforced and easily circumvented.

Cultural Attitude: Most humans treat Demis as cute exotic pets, objects of fetishistic fascination, or simple-minded creatures. Sexual use is quasi-legal in the grey area between "legal pet ownership" and "what happens behind closed doors." The reality that Demis are sapient, thinking beings capable of complex emotion is widely ignored or dismissed.

Shelter System: Demi shelters exist for abandoned pets, injured strays, or those whose habitats were destroyed. Most are poorly run. Some double as exploitative zoos.
